The Waiting Game and a Road Less Traveled

There is a unique kind of restlessness that comes with full-time travel when you’re forced to sit idle. Right now, we are playing a waiting game—holding out for a few final package deliveries and watching the inbox for the final closing paperwork on the sale of our home. It’s the official tether to our old lives, and waiting for those last boxes to check can make anyone a little twitchy.

Fortunately, we couldn’t ask for a better place to be stranded.

Our stay here has been absolutely wonderful. The campground hosts, Randy and Karen, have been incredibly helpful and welcoming, and we’ve truly enjoyed swapping stories and having some great conversations with them. On top of the fantastic hospitality, the views right from our site are nothing short of breathtaking. There is nothing quite like waking up every single morning, stepping outside, and being greeted by the majestic, snow-capped peaks of Glacier National Park framing the horizon.

To shake off a little bit of that stationary cabin fever, we unhitched the truck the other day and took a drive down Lubic Forest Road.

”Scenic” is an understatement; “rough” is probably closer to the truth. It’s the exact kind of rugged, unpaved terrain that makes you glad you have a capable 4×4 to chew through the bumps and ruts. But the jarring ride was worth every single bounce.

The road finally spilled out into an expansive, open pasture at the very end. We stepped out of the truck and were hit with a view that instantly quieted all the anxiety of waiting. Standing there, looking out over the landscape, it was a striking reminder of why we chose this life. The paperwork will clear, the packages will arrive, and the mail will eventually catch up to us. But until it does, waking up to mountain views and exploring the rough roads isn’t a bad way to pass the time.
