Clear Skies and Desert Jazz: A Day in Ajo

March 27, 2026
The desert has a way of starting gently before showing its true heat. We woke up to those signature clear blue skies and a crisp morning air that practically begged us to get moving. We started the day with a brisk walk around the Ajo Plaza, soaking in the quiet architecture before grabbing some iced coffees from Oasis Coffee Shop to kickstart the system.
Back at the rig, it was a “maintenance and chores” kind of morning. Living full-time in the Outdoor RV means there’s always a bit of house cleaning or a minor repair to tackle, but it feels good to keep our home on wheels in top shape.
Staying on Track
We are sticking diligently to the Bredesen Protocol while on the road. Lunch was simple, clean, and fueling:
A fresh mix of kale and spinach.
Topped with a can of sardines for those essential Omega-3s.
Following our KetoFLEX 12/3 routine keeps us feeling sharp, even when the desert temperatures start to climb.
A Sizzling Afternoon Surprise
By the afternoon, the heat really settled in. The thermometer hit a staggering 97°C, and the breeze seemed to vanish for a while. However, as the sun began to dip, we headed back toward the plaza and were met with a wonderful surprise.
Despite the heat, live jazz was playing by the fountain. It’s amazing how a little shade and a light breeze can transform 97 degrees into a very pleasant evening. We sat back, enjoyed the music, and took in the atmosphere of downtown.
Dining Out with Ruby
Since we were already downtown, we decided to splurge a bit and grabbed dinner at The Fat Cactus. We were pleasantly surprised to find out they are incredibly pet-friendly! Ruby was a big fan—she spent the meal sprawled out on the cool tile floor, enjoying the AC just as much as we were.
It was the perfect end to a hot Arizona day.
Until tomorrow,
Brian, Lori, and Ruby 🐾
